TWO NEW VENUES IN JOHANNESBURG

two-new-venues-in-johannesburg

A new dome has been erected on Krugersdorp hill, forming part of Tsogo Sun’s Silverstar Casino, based in Muldersdrift. The attractive structure, designed and built by Otto Wijnberger of In2Structures, has been equipped with a basic lighting rig, stage and PA system, making it a suitable self-sustained venue for smaller shows hosted by Silverstar. At the same time, a similar, albeit somewhat smaller, structure was erected at Tsogo Sun’s The Ridge Casino, Hotels & Entertainment complex in Emalahleni (Witbank), Mpumalanga.

In2Structures (Pty) Ltd, a member of the Gearhouse Group of Companies, designed and built the portable structures – one of which is a SupaDome, 71m x 35m with a height of 17m located at Silverstar Casino and the other is a Maxi Dome, 49m x 28m at 13m high, located at The Ridge. Unlike other conventional aluminium framed assemblies such as marquees, these Dome structures have the ability to withstand large imposed loads such as suspended equipment and high wind pressure and importantly include exceptional safety factors. The ease of rigging and load bearing capabilities of these venues make them ideal multipurpose venues for all kinds of entertainment and events.

Project Co-ordinator Djalita von Mollendorf from Mtshali Moss Projects, and Tsogo Sun’s Audio Visual Specialist, David Butcher, worked closely with Johnny Scholtz from DWR for the lighting requirements of both venues.

DWR installed a custom FOH in both venues using Robin 600 LEDWash fixtures and Robin 300 LEDWashes as part of the specification. Control is via an Avolites Tiger Touch 2, with the DMX system running wireless on Lumen Radio. Each self-contained venue also has a stage made up from Prolyte Stage decks.

Prosound has installed a house lighting solution using a selection of ETC’s innovative products.

The Silverstar Globe Event Arena officially opened with an in-house staff event near the end of October. The Ridge Casino opened ‘The Venue’ on 29 August with popular comedian Trevor Noah’s Nation’wild’ show.
