In the spirit of goodwill, Gearhouse Group decided to try a different approach to the end of year traditional gift process. So in lieu of client year end gifts and in the spirit of giving and improving the lives of others, they opted to donate food hampers and to assist with the packing thereof.
Ever thankful for their ongoing client support, they decided as a group to donate to a charity that is close to their hearts, namely the Gift of the Givers foundation on behalf of their clients. Sharing their intentions with their clients, they opted to assist the foundation countrywide. Gearhouse representatives from branches in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban took time out of their busy schedules to assist the respective Gift of the Givers branches with putting together gift hampers for the various charities they are working with.
“Deciding on Gift of the Givers wasn’t a hard choice for us. They are very passionate about what they do and being so well known and on a international level we wanted to assist them as best we could” says Liza Hooper, Assistant Marketing Manager at Gearhouse.
Gift of the Givers is one of largest disaster response NGOs of African origin on the African continent. It was established to offer disaster relief and response, together with other humanitarian work with the aim of reaching people worldwide.
The organisation was founded by Imtiaz Sooliman in 1992; a man that is extraordinary in the journey he has undertaken to help others all over the globe. He is an inspirational role model to many who know him, or at least, of him. “As South Africans we could do with a good dose of compassion and wouldn’t it be fabulous to allow it to flow into our daily lives, without a thought?” explains Liza.
“Every act of kindness is worth more than we can imagine for those that are less fortunate. In parts of South Africa families have succumbed to natural disasters which have left them without a roof over their heads or with little to no basic items. We take those benefits for granted and many of us can’t imagine what it would be like to go hungry daily or to fight the elements while we sleep.”
Gearhouse staff members were exceptionally privileged to work with the organisation at their own premises and to see the operation first hand. They met up with the people involved in aiding and devoting their lives to a cause that is near to their hearts. “It is truly a family affair and as the Gearhouse Family, we had an opportunity to be part of something that can’t be quantified”
A feeling of pride, in seeing others give so selflessly, makes one want to give and do more. This initiative was an eye opener for everyone that assisted. Its’s just a simple philosophy of being mindful of others. "The value of a man resides in what he gives and not in what he is capable of receiving." - Albert Einstein
