AN EPIC RACE FOR ALL

an-epic-race-for-all

Technical Services provider, INHOUSE Venue Technical Management (IVTM), was appointed as the preferred supplier for the 12th annual ABSA Cape Epic which took place from 15 to 22 March 2015. The INHOUSE VTM team have been involved with the ABSA Cape Epic since 2008, supplying all technical equipment for the main event and pre-events, media and route launches leading up to the race, nationally when necessary.

The client-supplier relationship between IVTM and the ABSA Cape Epic Team is a perfect example of the IVTM ethos encapsulated in the company’s tag line, Your Technology Partner. “IVTM’s ability to build long-term and mutually beneficent relationships with their clients is integral to the success of the delivery,” says IVTM’s Conference & Events Manager, Ashraf Allie. “It requires a real investment from both sides. We understand the Cape Epic team’s business and they understand ours. We have gained their trust over the years and they value our opinion and advice when it comes to technical elements. The results of the relationship speak for themselves.”

The ABSA Cape Epic has been attracting both local and international mountain bikers since it first came to South Africa in 2004 and has since then become the most televised mountain bike stage race in the world, ranked as ‘hors catégorie (beyond categorisation) by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and is seen as the highlight of a professional racer’s calendar. The race changes with every return - committing to provide bikers with a unique challenge each year. This year’s eight-day, 739km race route included 16 000m of climbing over some of the most magnificent mountain passes in South Africa. The race kicked off at the University of Cape Town with a time trial prologue and ended at Meerendal Wine Estate in Durbanville.

This year’s event was once again a collaboration between several members of the Gearhouse Group and included Audio for the start and finish lines, audio visual, trussing, lighting and stage for the Rider Awards (Gearhouse South Africa and IVTM), spectator seating stands (Havaseat) and LED screens (LEDVision). Plasmas and audio were also provided for the Chill Zone area and for the Sponsor Hospitality on the last day.

21 dedicated technical crew and an additional 15 support crew covered the route in 9 vehicles and on a 19 hour a day work roster. For Gearhouse’s technical experts, it was an epic race of their own with a very pleasing finish. For more information in IVTM visit www.inhousevtm.com
