The Academy runs an annual Accredited learnership from training centres in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.
This is a free-of-charge, full-time in-house training programme; Live Event Technical Production, NQF 4, SAQA ID 48669.
Unit Standards covered in the Learnership may be applied to following career streams within the Industry:
The course aims to produce work-ready industry entrants with a strong foundation in the exacting safety standards and methodology required for the Technical Production Services industry. Candidates applying, must be able bodied, as climbing structures, is a requirement in all the career paths trained in.
The syllabus prepares students for the long hours and hands-on nature of this type of career, with practical modules including Loading of Trucks, Preparation of Equipment, Set Up for Live Events, Operation of Equipment, Maintenance of Equipment, Building of stages, Firefighting and Working at Heights Certification, amongst others.
The programme runs for 12 months, January to December, between 08:00 to 17:00 daily. Learners complete the programme within this timeframe, whilst receiving a nominal "stipend" and overtime when out on events, after hours, weekends and Public Holidays.
Formative and Summative Assessments a are conducted throughout the year, and the completion of a Portfolio of Evidence.
Around 45 Gearhouse Kentse Mpahlwa Academy graduates enter the industry each year.
Applications are accepted during September and October only. Entrants must have a Matric qualification with Maths/Maths Literacy.
